Descriptions & History

The Foundation's fleet of flyable, historic army aircraft is growing rapidly, with twenty aircraft currently on hand.  Some are owned by Foundation members and are operated by the AAHF under a loan agreement.  The others are Foundation-owned.  To learn more about one of our aircraft, click on its picture.

Some of these aircraft have actual combat service. 

 

    The OH-6A Light Observation Helicopter (LOH) Serial No. 66-17795 served in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Mobile) from 1968 to 1971. The aircraft is painted in the markings of A Troop, 2/17th Cavalry.

 

    The Dehavilland CV-2B Caribou served in Vietnam with the 61st Aviation Company, the first Caribou company assigned from CONUS to Vietnam in June, 1963.  It is the only known Caribou flying in North America.

 

    The Bell AH-1G Cobra, Serial No. 67-15737, served with B Troop, 2/17th Cavalry, 101st Airborne Division (Air Mobile) in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970.  It is the only known flying "G" model cobra with combat service in Vietnam.

 

    The Bell TAH-1P Cobra, Serial No. 76-22599, served with A Company, 229th Attack Helicopter Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, KY from 1978 to 1982.

    The Foundation is constantly searching to expand its fleet of flyable army aircraft and is looking for aircraft that can be returned to flyable condition. The following is a list of aircraft we are particularly interested in:

    If you are aware of the availability of any of these aircraft for donation please contact the Foundation. Foundation member volunteers who are experienced with the aircraft type will accomplish all maintenance, restoration, and operations.
