U.S. Army Unveils Sky Soldiers Demonstration Team
|
Ft. Knox, Ky., (March 14, 2007) – The U.S. Army today announced a partnership with the Sky Soldiers Demonstration Team, a precision flight team that will perform at numerous air shows to increase visibility and generate interest in the U.S. Army. The group holds a combined 68,000 military flight hours with 5,400 combat hours, 10 Distinguished Flying Crosses, nine Bronze Stars, and 130 Air Medals among team members.
The mission of the Atlanta-based Sky Soldiers is to demonstrate the mental, emotional, and physical strengths of today’s Army Strong Soldiers to tomorrow’s future leaders. The U.S. Army Sky Soldiers are a unique and highly-experienced air show performance team. Composed of veteran, military aviators, the pilots have performed at 93 air shows over the last eight years before more than 8.7 million people.
“Our partnership allows the Army to reach a new audience at air shows throughout the country,” said Colonel Thomas Nickerson, Director of Strategic Outreach Directorate for U.S. Army Accessions Command. “The Sky Soldiers demonstrate the same qualities as our Army Strong Soldiers by exhibiting the professionalism, values, training, and teamwork found in the U.S. Army. Their shows not only entertain, but also give inspiration to those considering the U.S. Army and Army Reserves.”
The U.S. Army Sky Soldiers fly four legacy AH-1F Cobra attack helicopters. The 20-minute precision flight performance is complemented at each event by a large Army exhibit area, which features interactive displays and a U.S. Army Sky Soldiers Cobra aircraft manned by a team crew. A U.S. Army recruiting team is on-hand at all Sky Soldiers performances to answer questions first-hand about today’s Army opportunities.
The U.S. Army Sky Soldiers consist of volunteer veterans from a non-profit educational foundation, the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation (AAHF).
